🇬🇧 I often see people who are just starting to take care of their hair asking what type of hair they have, referring to the classification that goes from 1 to 4C, from straight to curly. But is it really that important?
What truly changes is the effort we put into the styling phase, because we want the best result possible based on what we have and the products that can help us achieve it. It often happens that straight-haired people want to be curly and vice versa, which is why many end up in the hands of professionals (not all, fortunately, but sooooo many!) who straighten or curl with questionable substances that inevitably damage the natural structure of the hair, causing more or less serious consequences.
But let’s imagine that everyone is happy with their hair and see what to do. For the topic of dry, normal, and oily hair, I refer you to a previous newsletter, also available on our website (BLOG section). The same goes for medium, high, or low porosity.
For straight hair, does styling not exist? Of course it does! We will always apply a HEAT PROTECTANT, a LEAVE-IN CONDITIONER, and possibly a PREBIOTIC GEL on the roots. For example:
🌸 GREEN NECTAR or POWER WATER (for medium-high porosity) as a heat protectant
🌸 CURL ACTIVATOR (I know, you’re straight-haired, but this one is right for you if your hair is very fine), VOLUME BOOSTER (if you go to the beach or pool and need sun protection), MY BEST OPTION (if you need proteins), MASK/CONDITIONER and LEAVE-IN CREAM F7S (if you want to strengthen your hair), GLOSSY LEAVE-IN CONDITIONER (laminating, moisturizing, for shinier hair), or FLAX IT! LEAVE-IN CONDITIONER for a soft and silky touch.
To eliminate any frizz on the days following washing, I always recommend CURL ACTIVATOR—it’s top!
For perfectly straight hair, hydrate your hair well, for example with the GLOSSY line, especially the GLOSSY LAMINATING MASK, which is ideal because it closes the cuticles and deeply moisturizes 🤩
Now let’s look at wavy and curly hair. Personally, I believe it’s more a matter of porosity and hair thickness than the type of wave or curl. And of the result we want to achieve: more definition or more volume? This depends largely on density and thickness. And it is achieved by using different techniques, even more than with different products!
❤️ If you want more definition, use more layered styling products, for example GEL + MOUSSE + GEL, or LEAVE-IN CONDITIONER + GEL + STYLING MOUSSE (always finish with a heat protectant or use LADY SHINE before styling). Also, apply styling products in two stages: a first round on soaking wet hair and a small extra halfway through drying.
❤️ If you want more volume, instead apply all the products to very wet hair and do microplopping. Gently separate the strands with your fingers at the end of drying, and shake your hair upside down. To get volume, it’s better to use CURL ACTIVATOR + GEL and possibly MOUSSE as well, products that are more hydrating and won’t weigh hair down. Especially if you have fine hair, don’t overdo it with creams. On the other hand, if you already have a lot of volume because of high density and thick hair, you can generously use our LEAVE-IN CONDITIONERS, because the volume will be there anyway, and plumping the fiber and protecting it becomes essential for its health.
The same applies for restyling after a few days: if you want to regain good definition without losing volume, thoroughly wet your hair with a spray bottle and reapply a GEL or the CURL ACTIVATOR, then blot and dry with a diffuser. The wetter the hair, the more definition you’ll get. For restyling very curly hair instead, you can moisten it thoroughly and redistribute a LEAVE-IN CONDITIONER and CRYSTALS.
Which products do we use? Always a LEAVE-IN CONDITIONER, a GEL (or two gels) as the base, then you can add a MOUSSE (OCEAN WAVE for more hydration, FLAX IT! for more definition), LADY SHINE (intensive protein treatment and definition booster).
A little tip I never get tired of repeating: the curlier the hair the more it tends to be dry by its very structure—this is especially true for AFRO CURLSLet’s hydrate during the washing phase, or before shampooing with rich masks (such as DEEP REPAIR PACK, the GLOSSY MASK, HAPPY TIME!). Definition will be less of a priority, but we will need to focus on controlling frizz and keeping hair shiny and soft. To do this, we use masks, conditioners, oil treatments, finishing products like CRYSTALS, and always, always, always the HEAT PROTECTANT. We can be generous with creams (LEAVE-IN CONDITIONERS) and give less importance to GELS… also, let’s not overuse MOUSSES, as they are more suitable for supporting wavy or less structured hair.
Final tip: when styling doesn’t last or doesn’t give the result you want, it’s probably time to do a good DETOX treatment—check out the dedicated line ❤️
